This new video from Organizing for America and the DNC shows in graphic terms how the stimulus bill stopped the job losses of the Bush Recession and helped put our economy back on the road to recovery:
The video is reminiscent of the Obama campaign’s use of online video in the 2008 campaign, and it’s the kind of thing OFA and the DNC ought to continue using to help bolster the administration.
It’s also a reminder that policy and politics go hand-in-hand: if the stimulus bill had been weaker, this sort of message would not have been possible, because the economy would still be collapsing. On the other hand, if the stimulus plan had been bolder, instead of saying that the Bush job losses had been stopped, this video could be talking about the Obama expansion.
Bottom-line: these kind of communications tools are important. But the most important thing is getting the right policy. As the White House has no doubt learned with health care reform, the better the policy, the easier it is to communicate.
